Right in the middle of your luxury Ferrari tour of Italy, spread over three hills in the heart of Tuscany, Siena is an unspoiled mediaeval city whose famous events have a profound cultural meaning to the people of Siena.
The main event, called the Palio, is held on July 2nd and August 16th. This world-renowned horse race around the city's seashell-like Piazza del Campo attracts tens of thousands of spectators, who can relive the exhilaration felt in the distant past.
The Piazza del Campo itself is one of Italy's finest mediaeval piazzas. Siena's other intact gems from the Middle Age include the Town Hall (Palazzo Pubblico) and the Torre dei Mangia (1340), which is about as high as the Cathedral.
The ancient fascination of Siena can be best appreciated from one of the many café’s beside the Piazza.
