Rome

The Eternal City lives and breathes history. Wherever you look there are reminders of a glorious past, yet it is also very much a city of today celebrated in the exhuberance and charm of it's people.

For those visiting Rome for the first time, we recommend the classic tour that includes the Colosseum (also called the Flavian Amphitheatre), inaugurated in AD 70 and used for shows and fights between gladiators, the more tranquil majestic beauty of St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City designed by Michelangelo, and the renowned Trevi Fountain with its sculptures and jeux d'eau.

Art lovers, of course, will head for the collections in the Vatican and Capitoline Museums, while those looking for something unusual will visit Caracalla's Baths, which are thought to have accommodated 1600 persons at a time, the popular "Bocca della Verità" (mouth of truth), an old mascaron said to bite the hand of liars, and the ancient Appian Way just outside the walls – the Roman regina viarum.
